Jerry Joinson and Frank Caccavo Jr. were the winners of the annual Eagle Cap Sled Dog Races that concluded over the weekend in Eastern Oregon.
Joinson, of Fort St. James, British Columbia, won the 200-mile event and Caccavo, of Deer Park, Wash., won the 100-mile event.
The races began Thursday at Wallowa Lake State Park. The eight-dog teams, running a 100-mile course, stopped for a layover at Ollokot Campground. The 12-dog teams, racing 200 miles, stopped for layover in Halfway. The 200-mile race is a qualifier for the Iditarod.
