For instance, the north breeds, like Alaskan Malamutes and Siberian Huskies, were bred to drag sleds.

They are low in pack drive, and coaching them not to tug on the leash could be a bit of a pain. Herding dogs were bred to herd cattle under the direction of their master.

Though high in prey drive, they also have a tendency to be high in pack drive and will be comparatively straightforward to train not to tug on the leash.

The defending breeds , for example the German Shepherd, Doberman, and Dog , were bred to work closely with man, so they have an inclination to be high in fight drive with a wish to protect family and property.

They can be simply taught to stroll on a leash. The Retrievers are high in prey as well as pack drive and usually love to retrieve. They too can be simply taught to stroll on a leash.

Lots of the behaviors for which dogs were bred , for example herding and hunting, are the ones that get them into difficulty today.

These behaviors involve prey drive and result in chasing anything that moves. A guard dog may guard your house against interlopers and shield your children, but those “intruders” may include the youngsters’s chums.
