Hundreds of dogs have gathered in the Highlands for the biggest event in the British husky calendar. About 200 teams of dogs will take part in the annual Sled Dog Rally near Aviemore at the weekend.

Husky NewsThe event is organised by the Siberian Husky Club of Great Britain. Teams of between two and eight dogs will run at up to 20 miles an hour over a four-mile track around Loch Morlich.

Alaskan Malamutes, Samoyeds, Greenland dogs and Canadian Eskimo dogs will also take part. Organisers are hoping for snow, but if there is none at ground level on Saturday the races are planned to go ahead with mushers using a three-wheeled rig that resembles a bicycle without a seat.
