Now, mushers from throughout the country have started to arrive in the Highlands for the biggest date in the British Husky calendar. The annual sled rally in Aviemore this weekend continues to attract growing numbers. But unfortunately one vital ingredient, so far is missing!

Sniffing for snow, but Siberia this most certainly is not. How ironic then that in a week which which has seen blizzard conditions in Glenmore Forest these dogs and their handlers should be denied at least another covering.

This after all should be a real artic experience as part of the drive to promote the interests of the Siberian Husky as a pedigree breed. The message it would seem. Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow.

And that could present a problem over funding. The number of teams has risen from 12 in 1984 to around two hundred now, but potential sponsors may not be straining at the leash to become involved if the future isn't white.

Teams are here from as far as the Isle of Wight and Devon to take part over the four-mile designated cross country track near Loch Morlich. Whatever the weather they're enjoying what they like doing best, to be with their dogs.
