A former town of Erin man accused of shooting his neighbor’s dog with a high-powered rifle almost two years ago was found guilty by a Washington County jury Tuesday.
David Luko, 48, was found guilty of negligent mistreatment of animals, possession of a firearm while intoxicated and shooting a caged/staked animal. All three are misdemeanors, according to statute. He had originally been charged with two felonies in the case, but they were modified to misdemeanor level by the jury.
The dog, a then-3-year-old German shepherd/Alaskan malamute mix named Jade, was found on May 5, 2005, bleeding on the floor of her kennel by her owners, Jeanne and Brian Moore, who live on the 6700 block of Highway O in the town of Erin.
