Lance Mackey of Fairbanks was the first musher to leave the Chistochina checkpoint of the Copper Basin 300 on Saturday night.
Mackey left the checkpoint, 58 miles into the race, at 6:44 p.m. Saturday and was followed by 13 other mushers within the next two hours.
Sam Deltour left at 7:17 p.m., followed by Ann Ledwidge at 7:28, Zoya DeNure at 7:37, Braxton Peterson at 7:37, Linwood Fiedler at 7:44, Gabrielle Dunham at 7:44, Mike Mayer at 7:45 and Sigrid Ekran at 7:52.
Defending champion Allen Moore was 13th, leaving at 8:45 p.m. with his wife Aliy Zirkle.
The race, with a $10,000 purse, started Saturday in Glennallen.
