The Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race has been called the last great race. Join musher Karen Ramstead and her North Wapiti team of pure bred Siberian Huskies as they train for and enter the 2005 Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race. Three time emmy winner (camera operation) Donna Quante, has taken her love of the Siberian Husky, a keen interest in the Iditarod and her TV knowledge to make a movie the whole family can enjoy.(Some dog oriented language may not be appropriate for all children.) Original music by Kyf Brewer completes the experience. The title song explains the race, while “The Husky’s Code” is told from the dogs point of view. It may bring a tear to your eye.

This product is manufactured on demand using DVD-R recordable media. Amazon.com’s standard return policy will apply.

To glorify the Iditarod race is inexcusable. The race should be BANNED if the real truth was told. Iditarod dogs are tethered on chains as short as four feet. Each dog is kept in one spot and cannot interact normally with other dogs. Many kennels have more than 100 dogs and some even more.. The breeding, culling [killing] and poor animal treatment needs to be exposed. During the race many dogs have died through the years the medical damage to many dogs after the race can be life threatening or cause permanent damage. Siberian Huskies are sled dogs for short term sport racing which doesn’t inflict animal abuse being abused like the Iditarod race. As a Siberian Husky owner my dog is part of the family free to live a healthy life and given lots of love.

We purchased this video for family viewing as we studied the Iditarod in our Homeschool studies. The information and video is outstanding – no question. The kids love it. However, if you are purchasing for ‘family’ viewing please be aware of the following: they refer to a female dog as a ‘bitch’ lots of times – which is obviously correct, but be prepared if your children are not familiar with the word. Also the vet at one point mentions ‘abortion’, again understandly from a medical point of view but be prepared for questions if your child has never heard the word abortion; but lastly, and most problematic, there is one point when they are wondering ‘how’ (of course we all know) the one female dog got pregnant and sort of under the breathe some makes the comment “that little slut”. Not really what I wanted my 7 and 9 year old girls to hear and completely unnecessary in what is otherwise a great movie about sled dogs and the iditarod.

I was extremely disappointed in this DVD. Very little of the actually race was actually shown – possible less than 1 minute… But there was lots of Karen hugging everyone and smoozing…. sorry but that was not what I bought the video for. All the reviews I read were 5 out of 5 stars – definitely misleading – they must have been your family and friends. This DVD should not be for sale on Amazon.com… it is a home video! for your own private gloating and bragging….. Argh. I spent my good money on this video. Please think twice before buying this video (unless you are a family member or friend of Karen – especially one of the many people she hugged on the video) – but in that case, you should get a free copy from Karen.Pretty Sled Dogs

If you think this video is a “chick flick”, forget that idea. And it surely is no parody of “Pretty Woman” either. It is a video about dogs and their hard working owners who love them dearly. That love comes across very clearly in the video as Karen Ramstead talks about her dogs; their training, showing and racing.

Donna captured all of the power and beauty of these “Pretty Sled Dogs”. You will walk through the kennel area with Donna as Karen cares for the dogs. You will ride with Donna as she piggybacks on a 4-wheeler as Karen runs a dogs team during a training run. You cannot help but being awed by the sheer beauty of these pure bred Siberian Huskies. Donna’s video takes you so close to the dogs that you will think that you could reach out and give these beauties ear rubs!

Donna’s video gives you a great inside view of a real working, championship racing kennel. You will see the amount of work and dedication it takes to get these magnificent dogs from puppyhood to the finish line or to the show floor.

This video is a must have for anyone who wants to be a musher, own a dog team or breed working dogs. If you ever wanted to visit a world class sled dog racing kennel, but resources prevented you, adding this video to your collection is the way to go.

Donna has won 3 Emmys for her TV camera work. Her mastery of video comes through in “Pretty Sled Dogs”. Please visit Donna’s web site at http://www.huskyproductions.net/

This video earned our highest rating, 4 paws and a tail wag!

I have an ongoing love affair with Siberian Huskies, we own one ourselves, and the fact that Karen Ramstead is a friend only adds to the enjoyment both Ayla (our Siberian) and I got out of this well done movie, filmed by Donna Quante. Ayla parked her butt right in front of the TV, and watched the entire movie along with my husband and I. If there is anyone out there who loves Siberian Huskies, and sled dog races, this is the movie to watch!
