Norwegian musher Kjetil Backen ended in ninth place as he arrived at Nome on Wednesday local time, completing the 1770 km Alaskan sled dog race Iditarod.
Lance Mackey won, crossing the finish line with a strong string of 11 dogs at 2:46 a.m. March 12, after 9 days, 11 hours, 46 minutes and 48 seconds.
Jeff King came second. Mackey also won in 2007.
Kjetil Backen had a team of young dogs this year, and used nine days, 21 hours and 25 minutes to complete.
Norway’s Sigrid Ekran, still on the trail Wednesday evening, looked to finish in 26th place.
Norway’s Robert Soerlie won the race in 2003 and 2005.
