Katie Harris of Iliff returned home with a first place finish during competition in the eighth annual Third Crossing Sled Dog Rendezvous last weekend in Minnesota.

Husky NewsHarris received top honors in the two-day, 4-Dog race (4.2 miles), winning with a combined time of 22:04.78, a time better than 12 other participants.

She would finish first during Day 1, posting the only time of the day to break under 11 minutes (10:50.11). Her overall time was more than a minute ahead of second place.

Harris also compete in the 8-Dog race (7.9 miles) and finished third overall with a time of 51:56.48.

The win in the 4-dog race guarantee’s herself a bid for the IFSS World Championship 4-dog competition to be held in Alaska in winter 2009. Only four sprint races in the nation are qualifying races for the world championship, and Harris did it on her first try.

Not bad for a young lady who turns 18 next month.
