Police and an animal control officer rescued a dog that fell into an icy pond behind an Old Town Farm Road home Thursday morning.
Two Woodbury police officers arrived with Angela Bond, the animal control officer for Woodbury and Bethlehem. They used a pole to reach the partially submerged dog, which was struggling about 6 to 8 feet away from the shore. They broke the ice with their feet and eventually reached the dog with a net, which the dog grabbed with his paws.
The dog, a 3- to 5-year-old male Siberian husky or Alaskan malamute named B.J., was taken to Davis Companion Animal Hospital on Main Street North, where Dr. Ron Celella treated it for hypothermia.
