Other sled dogs races, Siberian Husky, Trip and Travel No Comments »Between 9th – 18th January 2010 seven villages in the Haute Maurienne Vanoise region will host the sixth year of the Grand Odyssey Dog Sleigh Race, or La Grande Odyssée Savoie Mont Blanc as it’s known locally. It is the toughest international dog-sled race in the world and contested by 35 teams with approximately 350 dogs between them over 10 stages. Mackey’s repeated refrain that his father Dick Mackey, who won the closest finish of the Iditarod ever, taking a win over Rick Swenson by one second, was viewed as something of a laughing stock amongst those involved in the sport when he started made me wonder given Mackey’s claims of not getting the respect he deserves.
