A woman whose 8-month-old Siberian husky killed a neighbor's Yorkshire terrier last month learned that losing control of an aggressive dog can be costly. The Selectboard voted unanimously Tuesday night to award $965 in damages to Nancy Hammond, the owner of the 4 1/2 pound terrier that was shaken to death by the husky.

A Muskingum County Sheriff's deputy has been cleared in an internal investigation surrounding the events of June 20.

Ransom, a 3-year-old Siberian husky owned by Rob Padgett, 40, who lives off Ohio 60 North, was shot by Deputy Scott Hamilton.

The annual race stretches from Anchorage to Nome, Alaska. Begun in 1973, the course follows an old frozen river route and is named after a deserted mining town along the way. In even-numbered years, the trail follows the 1,151-mile long Northern Route, while in odd-numbered years, it takes the slightly different 1,161 Southern Route.
