Defending Yukon Quest champon Lance Mackey of Kasilof drove into Stewart River dog drop at 3:02 p.m. AST and maintained his lead in the 1,000-mile race, which was shortened to about 850 because of poor snow conditions in Whitehorse, Yukon Territories.

When mushers approached the U.P. 200 Grand Marais checkpoint , they were actually crossing the finish line. Last night’s weather conditions caused a three hour delay, and early this morning race officials made a very difficult decision to end the race early, rather than potentially putting racers in harms way.

Last month, the Miss America pageant was held in Las Vegas, marking the first time in 86 years that the event took place outside Atlantic City, N.J. And from all appearances everything went OK; a new superpower siren was crowned, and apparently managed to begin her duties without the traditional dip in the ocean. (Who needs salt water when you’ve got Bluephoria?)
